The Challenge
Our client based in Dahej, Gujarat is engaged in the production of active ingredients for cosmetics, specialty chemicals in personal care, coating and food ingredients to its various customers. Their manufacturing plant generates a strong effluent with COD levels at 75,000 ppm and TDS levels at 40,000 ppm.
Such high pollution loads in critical environmental parameters (pH, TSS, COD, TDS) are above tolerance limits of any conventional treatment systems. This situation requires exploring advanced treatment technologies such as Electro-Oxidation systems.
Novel Solution
Enviros India designed, installed, and commissioned the 50 m3/day Electro-Oxidation treatment by ECOT® on a turnkey basis. The comprehensive system covers all stages of treatment from ECOT® pretreatment, pre-filtration, diafiltration, evaporation (MEE), and Reverse Osmosis.
The electro-catalyst synthesized in-situ reactor sets out the oxidation of COD / TOC substances and reduces the pollution load down to COD < 10,000 ppm in the MEE Feed effluent. This greatly reduces the load on downstream systems such as evaporation (MEE) & filtration (RO). The steam efficiency of the evaporator is improved to the ranges of 1 Kg Steam : 3.0 - 3.2 Kg water evaporated. In addition, the cleaning cycles have been reduced and the quality of the crystallized salt by the dryer (ATFD) was enhanced.
The Result
This project highlights a comprehensive treatment model implemented by Enviros India to tackle most hazardous effluent with COD ranges above 75,000 ppm. The hassle free operation of the system, ability to handle dynamic shock loads of pollution levels, and the quick stabilization periods of the ETP (30-45 days) have made ECOT® highly successful on ‘High Strength Organic Effluent’ typical with specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, etc.
