The Challenge

The client based in Hyderabad, Telangana is a leading manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and an end-to-end solution provider for the pharmaceutical industry’s chemistry needs.

At their effluent treatment plant (ETP), the Multi Effect Evaporator (MEE) product condensate water has COD levels < 20,000 ppm and TDS < 6,000 ppm. Enviros India proposed LTDS treatment scheme to bring down the pollution levels to meet the stringent ZLD norms.

Novel Solution

Enviros India designed, installed, and commissioned the 100 m3/day MEE Condensate Treatment Plant on a turnkey basis. The scheme implemented includes primary treatment by Electro-Catalytic Oxidation Technology, ECOT® reactors followed by PreFiltration and RO Filtration to eliminate COD/TOC and TDS levels to facilitate environmental regulations.

The superior performance of ECOT® enables us to treat challenging high-level COD. Further, RO reject can be minimized to the levels of 10%. The recovered RO water is reused for utility purposes that reduces the freshwater consumption costs.

The Result

This project highlights the treatment system implemented by Enviros India to solve challenging condensate streams with higher COD ranges above 20,000 ppm for the API Manufacturing sector. The hassle free operation of the system, ability to handle dynamic shock loads of pollution levels, and the quick stabilization periods of the ETP (30-45 days) have made ECOT® highly successful on ‘High Strength Organic Effluent’ typical with specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, etc.
